Sofala

Sofala is located in the Center of Mozambique, is an important point of convergence in the connections between the South, the North and the West; the latter via the Beira corridor, an important and very old route, for penetration into the interior and neighboring countries.

It is bounded to the north by Tete and Zambezia, to the south by Inhambane, to the west by Manica and to the east by the Indian Ocean.

The main urban center is the city of Beira, erected a little north of the old city of Sofala on previously marshy land next to a bay where one of the main ports of the Country and Africa is located.

Its designation is due to Prince D. Filipe da Beira that at the beginning of the century. XX landed there on an official visit.

The most representative ethnic groups are the Seine and Ndau.
